Spring - the flush of awakening

Spring has arrived in Washington DC and the sticks and stones of winter are now a softening memory. As a newcomer to a region dominated by deciduous flora I am struck by the strength of nature. Winter wasn't too harsh this year, yet there have been a few snow storms, frost and ice were prevalent, the air definitely chilly, and leaves turned brown in turn fell and left its host a barren skeletal form.

This new DC is delightful and is emerging to reveal a lushness that teases even my somber moods into digging deeper for creative possibilities. As a metaphor on nurturing openings for transformation the passing from winter to spring has been very revealing. Living in a region steeped with national and international political ramifications my reflections on the emergence of spring parallels the public dialogue focused up accountability, responsibility, decision-making that will stimulate growth, repercussions resulting from downturn, accepting less, appreciate more, and developing a new awareness of community.

All meaty stuff and for me a welcome relief. A fully fledged spring may be a long way off for the US economy, yet in the meantime President Obama is calling upon American's and all global citizens to make a commitment to forging new ways of being. For many this will be arduous, for others, I count myself here, welcome the much needed call to blossom.

In keeping with the lush buds of spring theme, I have launched a new project titled - Sharing Stories of Hope. There is a navigational link on my website lyliefisher.com. The Sharing Stories of Hope project seeks out thoughtful reflections on facing life's challenges, whether a major life changing event or discovering how to make the daily flow of life balanced. Interviews will be published on the Sharing Stories of Hope blog allowing readers to discover first hand accounts of inspiraiton and healthy ways of being.

Currently Sharing Stories of Hope is a web based project with options for other forms of publishing.
